My work is driven by what I see.
Drawn to a roofline against the sky, flowers and
vegetables stacked in a farmer’s market, the energy of a city or a shaft of light on a weathered wall; I want to record the moment, by paint, camera or memory.
I derive great satisfaction from working plein aire. Depending on the scene, I may use a simple representational approach, or a more abstracted direction. I try to convey emotion. My work is painterly; not neat, with strong color and contrast. It’s not enough
to render details. I want feeling, texture and drama; the visual thrill that first drew my attention.
